The Balochistan police have arrested 11 suspects in connection with the brutal killing of a couple in an alleged honour-based crime, which has sparked widespread outrage across Pakistan following the circulation of a harrowing video online.

The incident occurred days before Eidul Adha, but only came to public attention after a disturbing video surfaced on social media platforms, showing the couple being shot at close range by unidentified gunmen.

Contrary to earlier assumptions, officials now say that the couple had entered into an arranged marriage, further undercutting any claims of social transgression and highlighting the pre-meditated nature of the crime.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti confirmed that 11 individuals have been arrested so far and that operations are ongoing to apprehend all those involved.

“All the people involved will be brought to justice. The state stands with the oppressed,” the Chief Minister wrote.

The provincial government has taken suo motu notice of the crime, with a case registered under anti-terrorism laws. Bugti emphasized that the state would show zero tolerance for those who challenge its authority or engage in such barbaric acts.

Government spokesperson Shahid Rind stated that intelligence and security agencies are actively working to determine the precise location and circumstances surrounding the killings.

He reaffirmed that the administration is treating the case as a top priority, assuring the public that no form of pressure or compromise would hinder the investigation.

The killings have reignited debates over honour-based violence in Pakistan, with the Pakistan Ulema Council previously labeling such crimes as “un-Islamic, anti-Sharia, and a form of terrorism,” urging authorities to prosecute the perpetrators under terrorism laws.
