A district and sessions court in Islamabad has declared former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur an absconder after he failed to appear before the court despite repeated summons.
The decision was announced during a hearing held by Judicial Magistrate Mubashir Hassan Chishti. The case relates to the alleged recovery of liquor and weapons from Ali Amin Gandapur. The court noted that the former chief minister did not attend the proceedings on the scheduled date and offered no acceptable reason for his absence.
Because of his continuous failure to appear, the court issued an oral ruling declaring him an absconder. The magistrate also directed law enforcement agencies to take immediate action and arrest him. Arrest warrants have been ordered to ensure his presence in court.
The case is registered at the Bara Kahu police station in Islamabad. The court emphasized that no individual is above the law and that repeated non-appearance cannot be ignored, regardless of political status or past position. Several opportunities had already been given to Ali Amin Gandapur to attend the hearings. However, his repeated absence forced the court to take strict legal action.
Legal experts say that once a person is declared an absconder, authorities are bound to trace and arrest them. Failure to comply with court orders can lead to further legal complications.
The court has now instructed the police to submit a report on the execution of the arrest warrants at the next hearing. Further proceedings in the case will continue once Ali Amin Gandapur is produced before the court.
The development has drawn attention in political and legal circles, as it involves a former provincial chief minister facing criminal charges and court action.
