Punjab has taken a major leap in healthcare with the launch of its first coblation cancer treatment centre, offering patients advanced alternatives to surgery.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will formally inaugurate the facility at the Mayo Hospital in Lahore today, marking a historic moment for the medical sector in the province.
The coblation technology uses controlled electrical heat to destroy cancerous tissues. It reduces pain, limits side effects, and significantly accelerates patient recovery times.
Unlike surgery or chemotherapy, coblation is non-invasive and allows doctors to treat tumours with high precision, ensuring improved outcomes with minimal discomfort for patients.
Doctors have already tested this advanced treatment successfully. In two notable cases, liver and breast cancer patients recovered more quickly using electrical heat therapy.

According to hospital officials, the chief minister had directed procurement of advanced machines from China, which were installed at Mayo Hospital earlier this month.
In preparation for the launch, Chinese experts trained doctors and staff, enabling local medical teams to operate the coblation system effectively and ensure consistent patient care.
Coblation targets cancerous tissue with heat generated by electricity. The method ensures tumours are destroyed while keeping damage to surrounding cells minimal.
Doctors at Mayo Hospital said the initiative will not only offer affordable treatment but also position Punjab as a regional hub for advanced cancer care.
