The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has introduced the Zhundoon OPD Card, a new healthcare initiative that aims to provide free outpatient services to residents across the province.

The program was officially launched on Thursday by Health Department Advisor Ehtesham Ali. Initially, it will be implemented as a pilot project in four districts — Mardan, Kohat, Malakand, and Chitral.

According to government officials, the scheme offers free outpatient consultations, diagnostic tests, and essential medicines. The initiative has been launched with financial support of Rs2 billion and is backed by the German development agency KfW.

This new program follows the earlier Sehat Card Plus scheme, which provided free inpatient care. Officials say the launch of the Zhundoon OPD Card marks a significant expansion in public healthcare, aiming to bring everyday medical services within easier reach of the public.

Residents can check their eligibility for the card by sending their CNIC number via SMS to 9930.

Authorities hope the card will benefit people in remote and underserved areas who often struggle to access or afford basic health services. The program is also being seen as part of a broader effort to build a more inclusive and equitable healthcare system in the province.
