Torrential rainfall in Lahore has severely affected operations at Jinnah Hospital, one of the city’s largest public health centres, exposing significant infrastructure challenges and causing major disruptions for patients and staff.
Floodwater collected at the hospital’s main entrance, creating obstacles for those trying to reach the emergency and outpatient departments. Patients in need of urgent medical care were seen wading through deep water, while attendants struggled to navigate wheelchairs and stretchers through the flooded premises.
Inside the hospital, the situation deteriorated further as leaking roofs in several wards forced staff to place buckets and containers to manage the water.

Despite these temporary efforts, patient care has been disrupted and procedures delayed. Medical professionals have raised concerns about the rising risk of infection due to unhygienic and damp conditions.
The emergency ward was particularly impacted, with water surrounding the facility, making it difficult to move patients quickly or safely.
The heavy downpour affected much of Lahore, with the Met Office confirming record-breaking rainfall in multiple areas. Nishtar Town recorded 178 mm, Iqbal Town 162 mm, and Gulberg 141 mm. Low-lying parts of the city remain submerged, and traffic has been heavily affected.
