Prominent government-run Jinnah Hospital in Lahore is facing scrutiny after medical assets worth more than Rs12 million were reported missing from its records.

The Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education issued a formal notice to Dr. Shabbir Hussain following an inquiry that suggested possible misuse or concealment of the hospital’s property. A three-member panel was assigned to investigate the matter after reports surfaced about missing equipment.

Among the items reportedly unaccounted for are operation theatre tables, hospital beds, air conditioners, wheelchairs, and hospital furniture. These items are essential for daily operations and patient care, making their disappearance especially troubling.

The committee’s findings, according to officials, contain substantial evidence linking Dr. Hussain to the alleged misappropriation. The notice served to him has demanded an explanation, failing which he may face strict disciplinary action from the Health Department.

Health authorities have pledged to conduct a full investigation and ensure those responsible are identified and punished. They also emphasized that restoring public confidence in government hospitals is a top priority.
