A landmark healthcare project is set to rise in Islamabad, as the government advances plans for the Jinnah Medical Complex and Research Centre in sector H-16.
The Rs212 billion initiative will be rolled out in two phases. The first stage, costing Rs75 billion, will establish a hospital to deliver advanced healthcare services, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif pledging free treatment for deserving patients. The second phase will introduce a medical college, creating a centre for education and research.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has allocated more than 600 kanals for the project. A Turkish-Pakistani consultancy is overseeing the design process, while boundary wall construction is set to begin shortly.

Reports suggest that the government is considering new taxes on products like junk food and cigarettes to finance the venture. Supporters argue that this approach could encourage healthier lifestyles while funding healthcare infrastructure.
The project has been described as a potential game-changer for Islamabad and Rawalpindi, not only improving access to quality treatment but also creating opportunities for medical training and research.
