The Government of Punjab has taken a major step to help people own better homes under the Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar (ACAG) housing program. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved new decisions to make the scheme more inclusive and helpful for more families across the province.
Under the new plan, interest-free loans for house expansion will now also be available to families living in joint households. This means people living in shared family homes can apply for loans to expand their houses and create more space for their families. This move has been welcomed by many families who struggle with overcrowded living conditions.
The Chief Minister has also set a strong target of building 160,000 houses by June 2026. This shows the government’s commitment to solving housing problems for low-income and middle-class citizens. The project aims to provide safe, affordable homes and financial support without interest burden.
Along with this, Maryam Nawaz Sharif approved the allotment of 1,534 plots under the Apni Zameen, Apna Ghar scheme. In the first phase, plots will be given through a transparent balloting process. These include:
194 plots in Jhelum, 129 in Kasur, 84 in Faisalabad, 59 in Lodhran, More districts will be included in later phases.
The Chief Minister has directed officials to start balloting quickly and increase funding for both housing schemes. She also stressed the importance of fast loan disbursement so families can benefit without delays.
A special meeting was held to review the progress of the projects. Senior officials from the Housing Department and PHATA briefed the Chief Minister on construction, loan distribution, and planning.
The Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar and Apni Zameen, Apna Ghar programs are becoming key pillars of Punjab’s housing policy. These projects aim to give people not just houses, but security, dignity, and a better future.
The new decisions show a strong push toward affordable housing and social welfare across Punjab.
