The Punjab government has dismissed widespread social media rumours suggesting a ban on the traditional act of showering money during wedding celebrations. Officials clarified that no such notification has been issued by the provincial law department, labelling the circulating claims as baseless and incorrect.

Speculation had surged online, with several posts claiming that a complete ban had been enforced on the practice, and that violators—particularly grooms—would face arrest. However, authorities have stated there is no truth to these reports, and no official directive has been released.

In many parts of Pakistan, especially in Punjab, showering money during wedding events such as Barat and Mehndi is considered a joyful expression of festivity. Guests often throw currency notes in the air or pin them on performers as a sign of happiness and goodwill.

Despite its cultural roots, the practice remains divisive. While many regard it as a part of traditional wedding celebrations, others argue that it reflects extravagance and should be discouraged. Nonetheless, no legal action has been taken against it so far, and it remains a personal choice for families celebrating weddings.
