In a recent development, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Parvez Elahi has been transferred from Camp Jail to Adiala Jail. This move comes after his wife, Qaisara, approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) to challenge his detention under the Maintenance of Public Order (3 MPO) Act. The petition urges the court to summon Elahi and demands his immediate release until a final decision is reached. The former Punjab Chief Minister’s arrest was ordered by the deputy commissioner of Lahore under the 3 MPO Act.
Due to the case’s high-profile nature, Parvez Elahi’s transfer to Adiala Jail received government approval. The Punjab government had earlier issued orders for his detention under the 3 MPO Act for a period of 30 days. The allegations against Elahi stem from two FIRs registered against him at Qila Gujjar Singh Police Station and Ghalib Market Police Station. Despite being granted bail on July 11 in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) money laundering case, Elahi remains incarcerated, with multiple rearrests in various instances.
