Pakistan has postponed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s planned visit to Russia due to rapidly changing regional circumstances, according to an official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office. The visit, which was expected to strengthen bilateral relations between Pakistan and Russia, will now take place at a later date after mutual consultations between the two countries.
Officials said the decision was taken after careful review of the current regional and internal situation. The Prime Minister’s Office emphasized that the visit remains important for expanding cooperation, but present developments in the Middle East require immediate diplomatic attention and focus.
The postponement comes as tensions in the region intensified following reports of large-scale military strikes involving the United States and Israel against Iran. The situation has created widespread concern across the Middle East, prompting several countries to reassess diplomatic engagements and security priorities.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has actively engaged with regional leaders to discuss the escalating crisis. In a message shared on social media platform X, he confirmed holding a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. During the discussion, the prime minister expressed Pakistan’s strong condemnation of the growing regional escalation and reaffirmed Pakistan’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states affected by recent attacks.
Sharif stated that Pakistan supports peace and stability in the region and remains ready to play a constructive diplomatic role. He also expressed hope that the holy month of Ramadan would bring calm and reduce tensions among nations.
In a separate call, the prime minister spoke with United Arab Emirates President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He strongly condemned the attacks targeting the UAE and other Gulf areas, including Abu Dhabi and Dubai, describing them as deeply regrettable developments that threaten regional peace.
The prime minister also expressed sorrow over the death of a Pakistani national who lost his life during a missile strike in Abu Dhabi. He conveyed heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and assured continued support from the Pakistani government.
Officials say Pakistan is closely monitoring the evolving situation and remains committed to diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing further escalation. A new schedule for the Russia visit will be announced once conditions stabilize and both countries finalize revised dates through mutual consultation.
