The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has reportedly sought various records from Imran Khan, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), in connection with the £190 million settlement case, according to sources cited by Geo News. This development follows Khan’s appearance at NAB’s Rawalpindi office for questioning by the anti-graft body’s combined investigation team.

During the interrogation, Khan informed the team that the records related to the settlement case are in the possession of the cabinet division and the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency. However, the record of Al-Qadir Trust is already available with NAB. Additionally, the NAB team has requested Khan to submit the records of all donors to the university, as well as the details of his personal donations.

Sources reveal that NAB extensively questioned Khan about his correspondence with the National Crime Agency in the United Kingdom. The anti-graft body has also sought the freezing orders related to the £190 million from Khan. However, Khan’s departure from the NAB premises was delayed as his car broke down and required repairs. He eventually left for Lahore in the car of Babar Awan as evening approached.

Earlier in the day, both Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi secured bail in separate cases after appearing before the anti-terrorism court (ATC) and accountability court at the judicial complex in Islamabad. Khan received bail in eight terror cases until June 8, while Bushra Bibi’s bail plea was approved until May 31 by the accountability court.

The £190 million settlement case involves allegations of corruption against Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and other PTI leaders. They are accused of adjusting Rs50 billion (equivalent to £190 million at the time) sent by Britain’s National Crime Agency to the Pakistani government as part of an agreement with a property tycoon, resulting in a loss to the national exchequer. The accused are also alleged to have obtained undue benefits, including the acquisition of land for establishing Al Qadir University.

The investigation intensified after the emergence of “irrefutable evidence” and was subsequently converted into a formal inquiry. The case revolves around the transfer of land worth billions of rupees to Khan and his wife by the property tycoon in exchange for legal cover for the tycoon’s illicit funds received from the UK crime agency.

As the legal proceedings continue, Imran Khan’s availability of the requested records and the subsequent investigations by NAB will likely play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the £190 million settlement case.
