Jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan has reportedly agreed to open a line of communication with the government, marking a notable shift in Pakistan’s political landscape. The move comes after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended an offer for dialogue during a recent address in the National Assembly.
According to insiders from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Khan conveyed his willingness for talks to party chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, who visited him at Adiala Jail earlier this week. However, the PTI founder is said to have stressed that any negotiations must happen discreetly, away from media coverage, to allow genuine progress.

Party officials revealed that PTI is now preparing to formally approach the government to begin talks. They argue that earlier attempts at negotiations failed due to intense media spotlight and are therefore advocating for a private setting this time around.
Barrister Gohar confirmed delivering the prime minister’s message to Khan but declined to disclose the contents of their conversation. “I can’t divulge what was discussed between us,” he told The News, indicating the sensitive nature of the exchange.

Sources also noted that Khan wishes the dialogue to be endorsed by the military establishment. He is reportedly open to meeting a representative from the security apparatus to help facilitate the discussions.
This development arrives at a time when many within political and civil society circles are urging national unity, especially following recent tensions with India. It remains unclear whether this fresh round of talks will lead to a meaningful resolution, but it marks a potential thaw in the standoff between Khan’s party and the ruling coalition.
