The Punjab government has introduced a new incentive scheme aimed at encouraging eco-friendly transport and reducing carbon emissions. Under the initiative, motorcyclists who convert their petrol-powered bikes to electric ones will receive a reward of Rs. 100,000.
The scheme is part of the Green Credit Program, which allows citizens to earn financial benefits by taking steps that support environmental protection. These include switching to electric vehicles, planting trees, and using energy-efficient lighting such as LEDs. People interested in participating can register through the program’s official website.
Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb revealed that the plan also includes broader environmental efforts, such as promoting urban forests and reforestation across the province. Under the “Plant for Pakistan” campaign, residents of Lahore can receive free tree saplings delivered to their doorstep by calling a government helpline. Around 300,000 trees are expected to be planted along the city’s Ring Road.

To maintain and monitor these trees, the government plans to adopt technology used in Australia, allowing real-time tracking of every tree planted. Additionally, forest lands previously occupied illegally have been reclaimed, and a new fire control unit using modern tools will be launched under the supervision of the Bank of Punjab.
Air pollution control also remains a central goal. So far, seven air quality monitoring stations have been installed in Lahore as part of the Punjab Air Quality System. Efforts to combat smog, especially during winter months, are a high priority for the administration.
