Apple has officially introduced its latest generation of laptops, launching the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro powered by the M5 chip, bringing improved speed, stronger artificial intelligence performance, and upgraded wireless technology.
The announcement highlights Apple’s continued focus on performance and efficiency while keeping the familiar design that users already recognize.
Faster Performance with the New M5 Chip
The biggest upgrade comes from Apple’s new M5 processor, designed to deliver faster computing and better handling of AI-based tasks. According to Apple, the new chip improves overall performance while maintaining energy efficiency, allowing users to run demanding applications smoothly.
The MacBook Air now starts with 512GB of storage, double the previous base option of 256GB. Users can also configure storage up to 4TB, the highest capacity ever offered in a MacBook Air model. All versions include 16GB unified memory, with options to upgrade to 24GB or 32GB.
Apple has also improved SSD speeds, helping files open faster and making multitasking more responsive.
Same Slim Design, Better Display Experience
Despite internal upgrades, Apple has kept the popular fanless aluminum design of the MacBook Air. The laptop remains available in 13-inch and 15-inch sizes, featuring a bright Liquid Retina display with 500 nits of brightness.
The device continues to include a 12MP Center Stage camera for video calls, Spatial Audio support, and two Thunderbolt 4 ports that allow connection to external displays and accessories.
Customers can choose from four colors: Sky Blue, Midnight, Starlight, and Silver.
New Wireless Technology and Battery Life
One of the major improvements is Apple’s new N1 wireless chip, which introduces support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. This upgrade promises faster internet speeds, improved stability, and better connectivity with modern devices.
Battery life remains strong, offering up to 18 hours of usage on a single charge. Apple includes a new dynamic power adapter capable of delivering higher charging output.
However, pricing has slightly increased. The new MacBook Air starts at $1,099, about $100 more than the previous generation.
Updated MacBook Pro Lineup
Alongside the Air, Apple also released updated 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models powered by the more advanced M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.
While the exterior design remains unchanged, internal upgrades focus on processing power and graphics performance. The new chips can include up to an 18-core CPU, delivering faster speeds for professional workloads such as video editing, programming, and AI development.
Apple says graphics performance can improve by up to 50 percent, thanks to new neural acceleration technology that enhances machine learning and large language model processing.
Storage options have also increased. M5 Pro models now start at 1TB, while M5 Max versions begin at 2TB, both featuring faster data transfer speeds.
Battery life reaches up to 20 hours on the 14-inch model and 22 hours on the 16-inch version, depending on configuration.
Prices begin at $2,199 for the 14-inch MacBook Pro and rise significantly for higher-performance configurations.
Changes to Accessories and Availability
Apple confirmed that in some regions, including the United Kingdom and European Union, power adapters will no longer be included in the box. The move follows environmental regulations aimed at reducing electronic waste. Customers in the United States will still receive chargers with their devices.
Pre-orders for the new laptops opened on March 4, with global availability starting March 11.
A Step Toward AI-Focused Computing
With the M5 generation, Apple is clearly moving toward AI-driven computing while improving everyday performance and connectivity. The new MacBook lineup combines familiar design with stronger internal capabilities, positioning the devices for both casual users and professionals in an increasingly AI-powered digital world.
