WhatsApp is set to roll out a new optional feature that will allow users to reshare and forward status updates, marking a significant shift in how content is shared on the platform.
According to WABetaInfo, the feature is currently under development and will be released in a future update. Once available, users will be able to choose whether their status updates can be reshared with others — a function that is not currently possible unless they are directly mentioned by a contact.
A dedicated toggle will appear in the status settings, giving users full control over whether their status can be reshared. The toggle will be disabled by default to maintain user privacy.

When this feature is enabled, a tooltip will notify the user about the resharing settings before posting a status update. Only those who have been allowed resharing rights will be able to share the status further with their contacts.
Importantly, WhatsApp has emphasized privacy in the design of this new option. The original poster’s phone number will remain hidden, ensuring that even if a status is reshared multiple times, the identity of the initial uploader is protected.
The resharing process will remain completely private, and the privacy feature will apply universally, regardless of how many times the content is shared.
