Because mercury poses such serious health risks as kidney damage, nerve disorders, and permanent skin problems, it is prohibited in many countries. Experts caution that it may result in long-term pigmentation and skin thinning. Hydroquinone, a substance that removes the epidermis’ outermost layer and can cause liver damage or cancer, is also present in some whitening creams.

In a press statement, the CCP declared that it would take strong action against businesses that deceive customers and sell dangerous goods. It emphasized how these practices lead to unfair competition in the cosmetics market and endanger public health.
The Commission advised the public to report any dangerous products or deceptive advertising via the CCP’s online complaint portal and to cease using whitening creams that may contain mercury.
