A newlywed couple in Faisalabad took their own lives on Tuesday after reportedly being unable to afford a honeymoon trip. The tragic event occurred near the Bhai Wala railway crossing, where the couple lay down in front of a moving train.

The deceased have been identified as Sajid and Razia, residents of Adeel Town. The couple had been married for just three months. Sajid worked at a local power loom factory and had recently asked his brother, Zahid, for financial help to take his wife on a honeymoon.

According to police sources, Zahid advised Sajid to wait a few days until he could arrange the money. However, the delay reportedly pushed Sajid into emotional despair.

In a devastating turn, Sajid made a final phone call to his brother from the railway tracks, expressing his hopelessness. Despite Zahid’s efforts to console and stop him, Sajid ended the call and, along with Razia, lay on the tracks in front of the Badar Express.

Rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene and transferred the bodies to Allied Hospital Faisalabad for legal formalities. A formal investigation has been launched by the police to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The incident has sparked outrage and concern on social media, highlighting the psychological and financial pressures faced by newlywed and low-income couples in Pakistan. Mental health professionals and local officials are urging the public to recognize signs of emotional distress and to seek timely help.
