Valeria Marquez, a 23-year-old social media influencer from Mexico, was shot and killed during a livestream on TikTok while sitting inside her beauty salon in Guadalajara, local authorities confirmed on Monday.
According to the Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office, the fatal shooting took place in the Zapopan suburb of Guadalajara when an unidentified man entered her salon and opened fire at close range. The motive behind the attack is still unknown, but the case is being investigated as femicide—a term used in Mexico to describe the killing of women due to their gender.

Just seconds before the attack, Marquez was seen on her TikTok livestream, calmly chatting and holding a stuffed toy while sitting at a table inside her salon. The harrowing moment was captured on camera, and the stream only ended when an individual picked up her phone and stopped the recording after the shooting.
Local media reports suggest that the shooter may have disguised his intent by pretending to deliver a gift. Moments later, he opened fire, leaving Marquez fatally wounded.
Police arrived at the scene at approximately 6:30 PM local time and confirmed her death. No arrests have been made so far, and authorities have not yet identified any suspects.
Valeria Marquez had garnered a combined following of nearly 200,000 on TikTok and Instagram, where she often shared beauty tips, lifestyle content, and behind-the-scenes footage from her salon. Zapopan Mayor Juan José Frangie expressed his condolences and condemned the killing in a statement to media outlets.
“Femicide is the worst crime,” he said, noting that no previous threats or complaints had been filed by Marquez.
The UN has reported that an average of 10 women or girls are murdered daily in Mexico, many as a result of gender-based violence, often perpetrated by someone known to the victim.
Forensic teams are currently analyzing evidence from the scene. The Jalisco prosecutor’s office has pledged a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrator to justice.
