LONDON: After nearly three years since its debut in November 2022, Netflix’s hit gothic fantasy series Wednesday is back with a second season, promising a darker, deeper dive into the eerie world of the Addams Family.

Season 2 premiered with much fanfare at London’s Westminster, where the cast and creators graced a purple carpet outside Central Hall and the Queen Elizabeth II Centre.

Returning to Nevermore Academy, Wednesday Addams, played by Jenna Ortega, finds herself reluctantly in the spotlight as a celebrated hero. But trouble continues to follow her as she grapples with evolving psychic powers and a fresh wave of supernatural mysteries. This time, the chaos comes with a familial twist — her younger brother Pugsley Addams (Isaac Ordonez) joins the academy, while their quirky parents linger frequently on campus.

“She’s kind of knocked off her feet this season. So it’s a lot of pressure,” said Ortega, who also takes on the role of executive producer for the new season. Fellow cast member Emma Myers, who plays Enid Sinclair, praised Ortega as the “cast spokesperson” and someone who fiercely supports the team.

Creators and showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar teased a bigger, bolder season:

“There’s more of the Addams Family this season,” Gough shared. “We learn more about the characters you met in Season One, and they have their own storylines.”

New characters add fresh dynamics, including Steve Buscemi as the mysterious new principal Barry Dort, and Joanna Lumley as the Addams matriarch Grandmama Hester Frump. Pop icon Lady Gaga is also set to make a guest appearance as a teacher in Part 2.

Millar emphasized that Season 2 will dive deep into mother-daughter relationships, female friendship, and the challenge of letting go of control — themes central to Wednesday’s evolution.

Visionary filmmaker Tim Burton also returns as both director and executive producer, continuing to lend his signature gothic flair to the series.

Wednesday Season 2 will be released in two parts:

  • Part One: August 6 (4 episodes)

  • Part Two: September 3 (4 episodes)
