Junaid Safdar, son of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar, has become engaged for the second time, sources close to the family confirmed.

The engagement ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Sharif family’s Model Town residence in Lahore and was attended by key family members, including PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, and the bride’s grandfather Mian Javed Shafi — a senior industrialist and longtime associate of Nawaz Sharif.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Usman Javed, son of Mian Javed Shafi. The Shafi family co-owns the Ittefaq Group Industries, historically associated with the Sharif family’s industrial legacy.

This engagement marks Junaid Safdar’s second. He was previously married to Ayesha Saif Khan, the daughter of Qatar-based businessman and former NAB chairman Saif-ur-Rehman Khan. Their marriage took place in 2021 at the luxurious Lanesborough Hotel in London during Nawaz Sharif’s self-imposed exile. The couple, however, parted ways amicably in October 2023, with Junaid confirming the divorce on social media.

Since then, Junaid has returned to Pakistan full-time and is reportedly assisting his mother with political affairs following her rise to Punjab’s top office.

Academically, Junaid Safdar is among the most distinguished members of the Sharif political dynasty. He holds two bachelor’s and two master’s degrees from prestigious British universities, including Durham University, Cambridge University, the London School of Economics (LSE), and University College London (UCL). He is also a noted polo player, having represented UK universities in international tournaments.

The news of his second engagement has sparked widespread interest across social media and political circles, rekindling public attention on the personal lives of Pakistan’s most prominent political families.
