Pakistani TV drama Behkaway is under intense criticism following the release of its 25th episode, which featured a troubling scene involving a child and an adult male character. Viewers have widely condemned the portrayal as inappropriate and irresponsible.

Written by Samra Bukhari and directed by Asad Jabal, the drama has already been under scrutiny for its regressive themes. The latest episode sparked outrage for depicting a scene where an underage schoolgirl is picked up by her maternal uncle, who then takes her to an ice cream parlour. His behaviour during the outing — including suggestive gestures — left viewers disturbed, with many calling the scene vulgar and unethical.

Social media reactions were swift, with users accusing the show of normalizing inappropriate conduct and sending damaging messages. Hashtags demanding the drama’s ban began trending, as calls grew louder for regulatory bodies to intervene.

In addition to the recent controversy, Behkaway has long faced criticism for how it portrays women. The storyline follows Zeenat, a wife caught in an abusive marriage with Zubair, who is shown as a manipulative and harsh husband. Critics argue that Zeenat’s character reflects a problematic pattern of presenting women as passive victims.

Despite a few voices suggesting the episode could spark necessary conversations around child safety, the overall reaction has been overwhelmingly negative. Viewers and critics alike say the drama has overstepped moral boundaries — and demand accountability from the makers.
