A camping trip turned dangerous for singer Quratulain Balouch when she was attacked by a bear at Deosai National Park in Gilgit-Baltistan. The incident has renewed concerns about visitor safety in Pakistan’s northern tourist destinations.
Balouch sustained injuries to both her arms when the wild bear struck, leaving deep claw wounds. She was immediately taken to a hospital in Skardu, where doctors treated her and later discharged her after confirming she was no longer in danger.
The exact circumstances leading to the encounter remain unclear. However, experts warn that Himalayan brown bears—native to Deosai—can become aggressive if startled or approached too closely. They stress the need for strict safety protocols, awareness campaigns, and regulated camping in the area.
Deosai National Park is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and rare wildlife, making it a popular spot for trekkers and campers. But the recent attack highlights the risks of human-wildlife interactions, especially in remote areas where medical help is limited.
Tourism authorities are now under pressure to strengthen safety guidelines. Visitors are being advised to travel in groups, avoid isolated areas, and keep safe distances from wildlife.
