Lahore — In a landmark decision, the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) and Punjab Education Initiatives Management Authority (PEIMA) have introduced a fixed monthly salary of Rs. 20,000 for teachers working in partner schools across the province — even during summer vacations.

Previously, teachers at these schools were paid a modest Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 8,000 per month, with many experiencing delays or complete halts in payments during school breaks. The new policy, formalized by the School Education Department, mandates full monthly payments regardless of holiday periods, offering long-overdue financial relief to educators.

“This is a significant step toward protecting the economic rights of our teachers,” said an official from the department. “Teachers deserve consistent compensation, whether schools are open or closed.”

Strict Monitoring and Enforcement Measures

To ensure full implementation, PEF has issued instructions for regular inspections of partner schools during the summer break. Schools failing to comply with the payment directive may face penalties, including fines or termination of partnership agreements.

Additionally, partner schools are now required to maintain digital records of all salary transactions. Officials stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in managing salary disbursements.

Impact and Reach

According to the School Education Department, more than 10,000 PEF and PEIMA partner schools are currently operational in Punjab, employing over 30,000 teachers on a regular basis. The updated salary policy is expected to significantly improve job satisfaction and financial stability for these educators.

“This move not only recognizes the contribution of private partner school teachers but also strengthens the public-private partnership model in education,” said a senior PEF administrator.

The announcement has been welcomed by educational advocates and teacher associations, who have long campaigned for improved wages and labor rights in the private education sector.

  • Assalamu Alaikum, I have been working as a teacher in a school of Punjab Foundation for the past 3 years. The salary of all of us teachers is four thousand to five thousand, which is not paid to us on time, and we are not even paid for summer vacations. We belong to poor families. Please take action against the school administration. Thank you.
