Amid intense summer heat across Punjab, the provincial authorities have postponed the reopening of schools, extending summer holidays until 1st September for both public and private institutions.
The School Education Department confirmed that this decision was taken to protect students from the effects of the ongoing heatwave. Officials explained that the health and wellbeing of children were central to the decision, and a formal notification would be issued soon.
Schools had initially been scheduled to reopen in early August, but the persistent high temperatures forced a revision of plans. Education officials said that feedback from parents and school administrations also played a key role.
The extension applies uniformly across all cities and towns in Punjab, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, and Faisalabad. The government stressed that this policy covers both public and private schools, without exception.
The delay comes as Pakistan continues to grapple with extreme weather patterns, with health experts urging caution, especially for young children exposed to the heat.
