Schools across Punjab are scheduled to reopen on 15 August 2025, as announced earlier by the provincial government, ending the annual summer vacation period. However, parents and school staff remain cautious as extreme temperatures continue to sweep the province.

The education department has not released a new advisory, keeping the previous schedule intact. While Thursday marks the official reopening date, many believe that student attendance may be minimal due to the unresolved debate over whether schools should resume during peak heat conditions. Most institutions are expected to function fully from 18 August if no further instructions are issued.

Officials have stated that any reconsideration of the reopening will depend on the outcome of a final weather review. With no fresh notification in sight, schools are preparing to implement summer-adjusted timings.

As per the updated schedule, single-shift schools will operate from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm during weekdays, closing early at 11:30 am on Fridays. In double-shift setups, the morning hours remain the same, while the second shift will run from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm on Fridays.

Parents and teachers across the province have voiced concerns about children returning to classrooms amid harsh weather. Some are urging the government to prioritise student health and delay the reopening by a few more days. Social media platforms have also seen a rise in calls for an extension to the summer break.
