The Punjab government has approved a new admission policy for public and private medical and dental colleges, introducing reforms designed to improve transparency.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif, where several important healthcare-related measures were also discussed in detail.
Under the revised framework, passing the Medical and Dental College Admission Test has been declared mandatory for securing admission to public medical institutions.
The details further show that for children of overseas Pakistanis, the government has set a fixed fee of ten thousand dollars for appearing in the MDCAT examination.
In private institutions, candidates placed on the provisional admission list will be required to deposit one-third of their tuition fees with the University of Health Sciences.

Once the final merit list is announced, the University will transfer collected funds to the respective institutions, while students must pay the remaining fees directly.
The meeting also approved mandatory post-graduate training for doctors at private hospitals, ensuring specialist deployment based on national demand across medical fields.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif celebrated the first successful angioplasty in Sahiwal and praised the launch of cardiac surgery services at the city’s cardiac centre.
She further directed the creation of a foolproof treatment protocol for patients undergoing advanced procedures at the Ablation Centre established in Lahore’s Mayo Hospital.
