The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Elementary and Secondary Education Department has extended its school enrollment campaign until May 31 after falling short of student registration targets, particularly in rural and tribal regions.

Officials said the extension comes in response to lower-than-expected enrollment figures. Areas most affected include the merged tribal districts, where challenges such as lack of awareness, minimal parental interest, and limited administrative support continue to hinder progress.

In some districts, poor infrastructure and a shortage of teaching staff have further discouraged parents from enrolling their children in public schools.

Recent statistics shared by the department confirmed that the number of new students registered over the past few weeks remained significantly below the desired levels.

To address the shortfall, the department has instructed district education officers, especially in the tribal areas, to intensify their efforts. The Deputy Director of Planning and Development has asked officials to collaborate with community elders and use local media platforms to reach out to parents.

Officials believe that community engagement and increased awareness will be key to improving turnout. They have also stressed the need to improve school facilities in order to build trust and confidence among families.

The extended campaign is now expected to give authorities additional time to boost outreach and ensure more children are brought into the education system across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
