The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced an education reform programme worth Rs. 364 billion for the fiscal year 2025–26, aiming to improve learning access, infrastructure, and quality throughout the province.

At a press briefing, Education Minister Faisal Tarakai shared that 1,500 government schools will be handed over to private organisations under a public-private partnership model. Additionally, 200 new schools will be established through the Elementary Education Foundation to expand education outreach.

To address gaps in infrastructure and promote digital learning, Rs. 1.2 billion has been set aside to build smart classrooms and additional school buildings. Secondary schools will also receive new computer labs and internet access to enhance technology integration.

Tarakai pointed out the lack of basic facilities in merged districts and announced the construction of 500 classrooms for primary schools. He added that all primary-level students will be given free books, schoolbags, and stationery. The education card scheme will continue to provide additional support to low-income families.

The budget also allocates resources for 29 new initiatives and a dedicated fund to restore 10 historical schools. Officials said all schools will have complete furniture by year-end.

Highlighting progress, Tarakai said teacher attendance has improved by 6% due to stronger monitoring. The province will continue efforts to enrol out-of-school children through year-round outreach.
