Public anger is growing after a COMSATS University professor was caught on camera insulting a student in front of an entire class for not having a laptop.

The incident, which took place on 19 June, involved Dr. Tayyab Chaudhary, who allegedly humiliated a student by questioning his inability to bring a laptop to class. Eyewitnesses claim the professor pressured the student to call his elder brother and even suggested he arrange a laptop using zakat – religious charity meant for those in need.

The scene, secretly recorded by another student, has since gone viral, triggering widespread backlash. Many called the professor’s remarks offensive and degrading, particularly when he referenced the student’s family situation.

Student groups condemned the episode as a form of psychological abuse and said it created a hostile learning environment. Several students filed formal complaints with the university’s administration, but they were reportedly dismissed with little response from faculty.

Amid the controversy, students allege that Dr. Chaudhary downgraded the class’s grades in retaliation for raising the issue. They also claim this is not the first time the professor has been accused of mistreating students.
