The Senate Standing Committee on Delegated Legislation has demanded a detailed report regarding the relaxation of the upper age limit for CSS examinations.
The matter was discussed in a meeting chaired by Senator Nasima Ehsan, where FPSC officials explained the current rules governing CSS eligibility and age relaxations.
Officials from the FPSC informed the committee that CSS candidates must be under 30, though a two-year relaxation is permitted in certain defined circumstances.
The Committee Members were told that provincial service commission examinations remain entirely separate from CSS and do not affect the federal-level recruitment process.
The Senate Standing Committee was also briefed that reforms are under consideration to address low pass rates, particularly in English where most candidates fail.

It is worth noting that debate intensified on the quota system, with Senator Bushra Anjum Butt noting that quota laws were abolished in 2013 and must be reviewed.
An Establishment Division official admitted no constitutional provision exists for quotas, while FPSC said the government continues applying the system in practice.
Members further sought clarity on increasing age limits for provincial examinations in Punjab and suggested reviewing the CSS English essay structure.
The Standing Committee directed FPSC to submit detailed proposals and reforms, ensuring recruitment policies align with transparency, merit, and the broader national interest.
