the UK-based examination body, Learning Resource Network (LRN), has introduced Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a formal subject at the international GCSE and A-levels — becoming the first exam board globally to do so.

This new initiative will enable students aged between 14 and 19 to study AI through LRN-accredited schools around the world. The qualification is designed to help young learners understand core AI principles, explore real-world applications, and examine ethical concerns surrounding this rapidly evolving field.

Dr. Muhammad Zohaib Tariq, LRN’s Chief Executive, explained that the subject will hold equal academic weight as long-established disciplines like Mathematics and Physics. He stated that by offering AI as a full academic subject, Britain is positioning itself at the forefront of AI education.

He added that the move not only equips students with critical skills needed for tomorrow’s workforce but also reflects a growing need to align educational frameworks with technological advancement.

As artificial intelligence continues to influence sectors ranging from healthcare to finance, experts view this curriculum shift as a timely response to global demand for tech-savvy professionals.
