The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has reported a 0.73% rise in weekly inflation, with prices of everyday essentials continuing to climb. On a year-on-year basis, inflation was recorded at 2.06%, according to the data released on Friday.
The weekly report highlighted that prices of 18 essential commodities increased, while six items became cheaper, and 27 remained unchanged.
Among the major increases, broiler chicken saw a sharp rise of nearly Rs40 per kilogram. Vegetable prices also went up, with onions rising by Rs5.50 per kg, tomatoes by Rs8, garlic by Rs18, and potatoes by Rs3 per kg.

Sugar prices saw a notable jump of Rs10 per kg, reaching Rs185 per kg. The cost of other essential items, such as mutton and powdered milk, also rose during the week.
On the positive side, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder dropped by Rs302. Similarly, eggs became slightly cheaper by Rs1.53 per piece, while moong dal saw a minor decrease of Rs1.21 per kg.
Market observers say the ongoing fluctuations in food prices reflect the broader economic challenges, including supply chain issues and rising input costs, contributing to pressure on household budgets.
