The Hidden Pitfalls of Shopping on Temu A Cautionary Tale for Pakistani Consumers

Temu’s entry into Pakistan’s online shopping market has been marked by enticing discounts and flashy promotions. However, beneath the surface, many consumers are uncovering significant drawbacks that warrant caution.

One major issue is the platform’s use of misleading discounts and fake urgency tactics. Products are often displayed with inflated original prices, creating an illusion of substantial markdowns. Countdown timers and limited-time deals further pressure shoppers into quick purchases, yet these “expiring deals” frequently reappear, revealing the deceptive nature of such promotions.

The refund and return process is another area of concern. Customers report that Temu takes weeks to process refunds or outright refuses them without clear reasons. Some buyers never receive their orders and struggle to get a response when attempting to request a refund. The absence of a local return center or proper customer protection policies makes retrieving funds a daunting task.

Furthermore, Temu’s customer service is notably unreliable. With no Pakistan-based support team, all complaints must go through overseas channels, which are often slow and unhelpful. Automated responses and a lack of accountability leave customers feeling abandoned when issues arise.

Product quality also falls short of expectations. Many items, especially clothing, accessories, and electronics, are made from cheap materials and lack durability. Some listings use well-known brand names to mislead buyers into thinking they are purchasing authentic products, only to receive low-quality knockoffs.

Additionally, Temu does not offer Cash on Delivery (COD), requiring full payment upfront. This policy, combined with minimum order requirements, places all the risk on the buyer. If an order is incorrect, defective, or never arrives, there is no guarantee of getting a refund.

Given these issues, Pakistani consumers are advised to exercise caution when considering purchases on Temu. The platform’s enticing deals may not be worth the potential risks and frustrations.
