Cement prices in Pakistan saw a minor decrease during the week ending May 22, with rates dipping in northern regions while remaining largely unchanged in the south, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
The average retail price per 50kg bag of cement in northern cities dropped by 0.37%, settling at Rs1413 compared to the previous week. Industry analysts believe the slight reduction may offer some relief to ongoing construction projects in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In contrast, southern cities maintained price stability, with the average price per bag holding steady at Rs1428. The continued high demand in cities such as Karachi, Hyderabad, and Quetta is thought to be keeping prices firm.
Despite regional variations, cement rates remain relatively high nationwide, a trend that has placed added financial pressure on developers and contractors. However, the slight drop in the north could signal the start of more competitive pricing as the summer construction season peaks.

The Bureau’s data highlights city-wise retail prices across both regions. Lahore recorded one of the highest rates in the north at Rs1464, while Sukkur topped southern rates at Rs1500 per bag. The lowest price was noted in Bannu and Karachi, both at Rs1360.
Market observers are closely watching whether this minor price adjustment will continue or reverse in the coming weeks.
