In a key move towards hybrid vehicle adoption, Sazgar Engineering Works has started accepting pre-orders for its first locally assembled plug-in hybrid SUV, the HAVAL H6 Hi4 1.5L AT AWD Turbo. The news was shared in a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Monday.

The company stated that it expects the first locally assembled model to be ready by August 2025. The HAVAL H6 PHEV blends a petrol engine with an electric battery, offering both fuel economy and the flexibility to drive short distances on electric power alone.

This initiative is part of a larger strategy by Sazgar to invest in new energy vehicles (NEVs). The company has also announced future launches, including a TANK-500 Hi4-T SUV and a CANNON ALPHA Hi4-T pickup truck—both plug-in hybrid models. These are expected to be introduced before the end of March 2026.

The limited number of charging stations across Pakistan makes plug-in hybrids a more realistic option than fully electric vehicles. Recognising this, the government reduced power tariffs for EV chargers earlier this year to make EV adoption more appealing.

Industry observers believe that these developments point toward a more competitive and innovative auto market. Samiullah Tariq from Pak-Kuwait Investment Company commented that increasing hybrid options is a good sign for local consumers.

Adding further momentum, Chinese EV leader BYD also announced that it would begin local production by July or August 2026. The move is expected to help BYD access emerging markets and make use of government incentives in Pakistan.
