The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported a 1.34 per cent decline in the overall weekly inflation rate, offering some relief to consumers. According to the data released on Friday, the annual inflation rate now stands at 4.17 per cent.

Despite the overall decline, the report showed mixed trends in essential commodities. Prices of 18 basic items increased, while 14 items registered a fall, and 19 remained stable.

Key essentials saw a notable rise, including high-speed diesel, which increased by Rs2.89 per litre, and eggs, which went up by Rs2.89 per dozen.

Domestic LPG cylinders rose by Rs1.42, while firewood surged by Rs7.98 per maund. Food staples such as rice, beef, lentils and potatoes also became costlier.

On the other hand, consumers received some relief with sharp price drops in tomatoes and chicken, which fell by Rs52.36 and Rs58.27 per kg, respectively.
