Domestic markets saw a fresh increase in gold and wheat prices on Tuesday, heightening concerns over inflation.

Latest data from the All Pakistan Gems and Jewelers Association showed that the price of 24-karat gold climbed by Rs900 per tola, settling at Rs360,700 compared to Rs359,800 a day earlier.

The cost of 10 grams rose by Rs772, reaching Rs309,242. Silver prices remained unchanged, with per tola at Rs4,121 and 10 grams at Rs3,533.

The commodity market also reported an upward shift in wheat rates. A 40-kilogram bag jumped by Rs300, now priced at Rs3,100, up from Rs2,800 previously.

Pakistan Flour Mills Association Chairman Asim Raza criticised the government’s approach, saying that the deregulation of the wheat market by Punjab authorities has created instability. He warned that if the trend continues, consumers could face higher flour prices in the near future.

Stakeholders have called on the federal and provincial governments to take urgent action to stabilise wheat supplies and prevent further increases.

The twin rise in gold and wheat prices reflects broader pressures on the market and underlines the impact of both global trends and domestic policies on essential commodities.
