Flour prices in Peshawar have surged by Rs20 per kilogram, reaching Rs120 in the retail market, following fresh supply constraints and market manipulation.
According to market sources, the price of flour has climbed from Rs100 to Rs120 per kilogram in recent days, marking a steep rise for households already struggling with inflation. The sharp increase is being blamed on the Punjab government’s restriction on flour shipments to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Dealers in Peshawar allege that the decision has disrupted supply chains, allowing the grain mafia to hoard wheat and exploit the situation. They further warned that if the KP government does not take immediate steps to coordinate with Punjab and regulate wheat pricing, the cost of flour could spiral further in the coming weeks.
Residents have expressed growing concern over the unaffordability of basic food items, urging authorities to intervene.
