Prices of key commodities have surged in Punjab, with flour and sugar recording sharp increases that are troubling ordinary citizens.
According to traders, the cost of a 20-kilogram flour bag has gone up by Rs300 in just two weeks. Per-kilogram flour rates also rose by Rs15, after wheat prices jumped from Rs2,300 to Rs2,800 per maund.
Sugar remains another major concern. It continues to sell at Rs200 per kilogram, significantly higher than the official government-fixed price of Rs175.
Shoppers said the hikes are burdening household budgets, particularly for families already affected by inflation. Several residents urged government departments to tighten monitoring and introduce relief measures to bring stability in food markets.
