Controversial property magnate Malik Riaz has warned that Bahria Town, one of Pakistan’s largest real estate groups, is on the brink of a nationwide shutdown due to escalating legal and financial pressure from authorities.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Riaz claimed that Bahria Town’s operations across Pakistan have been “severely paralyzed” following a series of actions by law enforcement, including the arrest of dozens of staff, freezing of bank accounts, and seizure of vehicles.

“Our cash flow has been completely destroyed. It has become impossible to provide daily services. We are unable to pay the salaries of our tens of thousands of staff,” said Riaz.
“We are certainly one step behind this last step [full shutdown], but the situation on the ground is getting worse by the minute.”
The dire warning comes hours after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) announced plans to auction several high-value properties owned by Riaz and his associates on August 7, 2025. These measures are reportedly part of ongoing accountability efforts targeting financial irregularities and land-related corruption.
While Malik Riaz did not provide further details about the auction or legal proceedings, his statement reflects the most serious internal crisis Bahria Town has faced since its inception.
