The Punjab government has directed all public schools in the province to set up Anti Harassment Committees within 30 days to deal with harassment cases in educational institutions. This Order given by the Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, on the occasion of the “International day of the girl Child”. The goal of forming these committees is to create a safe and respectful environment for all students, especially girls.
According to the notification, the committees will act as a confidential and effective system for handling sexual harassment complaints in schools. It also stated that the committees will work under the Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010, and follow all departmental guidelines.
The School Education Department (SED) has directed every primary, elementary, secondary, and higher secondary school to form a committee that includes the head of the institution and at least three teachers, with women’s representation being mandatory.
This is a positive and much-needed step by the government to protect girls in educational institutions. Such initiatives can help create a safer and more respectful environment, where every girl feels secure, confident, and valued. A society is truly strong when its girls can learn and grow without fear or hesitation.
