Dubai witnessed a dramatic moment when lightning struck the top of the Burj Khalifa during a heavy rainstorm. The rare scene was shared by Dubai’s Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, on social media and quickly caught public attention.
The short video shows dark clouds covering the sky as rain pours down over the city. A bright lightning bolt can be seen hitting the world’s tallest building, followed by the powerful sound of thunder. The clip feels intense yet beautiful, showing the raw power of nature in the heart of a modern city.
Sheikh Hamdan kept the caption simple. He wrote “Dubai” along with rain and lightning emojis. Known for his love of photography, nature, and adventure, the Crown Prince often shares moments like this with his followers. He is also widely known as “Fazza,” the name he uses for his poetry, which means “the one who helps” in Arabic. Alongside his public role, he serves as the UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence.
The lightning strike happened during unstable weather across the UAE. The National Centre of Meteorology had already issued alerts warning people about rain, thunder, lightning, and possible hail in different regions. According to weather officials, the conditions were caused by a surface low-pressure system extending from the Red Sea.
This system led to thick cloud formation and sudden rainfall of varying strength. In some areas, storms were strong enough to produce lightning and hail. Residents were advised to stay alert and take safety precautions during the changing weather.
The video of lightning striking the Burj Khalifa quickly went viral, with many viewers calling it breathtaking and unforgettable. It served as a reminder that even in a city known for towering skyscrapers and advanced technology, nature can still steal the spotlight in the most unexpected ways.
