The Middle East has entered a new phase of military tension after Iran launched a large missile and drone attack against Israel following what Tehran described as a “major combat operation” carried out by the United States and Israel on Saturday. The latest developments have raised fears of a wider regional conflict and weakened hopes for a diplomatic solution to Iran’s long-standing nuclear dispute with Western countries.
According to Iranian military officials, the strikes were carried out under an operation named “Fateh Khyber.” A barrage of ballistic missiles and drones was launched, triggering air raid sirens across several parts of Israel. Residents rushed to shelters as explosions were reported in multiple locations.
Northern Israel was among the main targets, including areas near Hafizah, where loud blasts were heard. The capital city, Tel Aviv, also experienced explosions, showing the scale and reach of the Iranian response. Israeli defense systems were activated to intercept incoming threats, though reports suggest that some missiles struck key locations.
The conflict quickly expanded beyond Israel. Reports indicated that Iranian missiles also targeted several United States military bases across the Gulf region. Countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain reported missile activity and explosions.
In Saudi Arabia, blasts were heard in Riyadh, while Abu Dhabi in the UAE also reported explosions. Bahrain confirmed impacts near facilities connected to the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet service center. Following the strikes, American diplomatic personnel in Bahrain were moved to secure shelters as a precautionary measure.
Qatar reported that several missiles were intercepted mid-air by defense systems, preventing major damage. Kuwait also confirmed hearing explosions, adding to concerns that the conflict could spread across the region.
As tensions rose, Gulf nations including Saudi Arabia and the UAE temporarily closed their airspace, disrupting regional travel and increasing security measures. Aviation authorities said the decision was taken to protect civilian aircraft during the ongoing military situation.
Iranian officials stated that all US military bases in the Middle East fall within the range of Iranian missile systems, signaling a warning against further military action. Meanwhile, the United States Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the US Consulate in Dubai issued emergency advisories instructing staff and American citizens to shelter in place until further notice.
Political analysts warn that the latest escalation could lead to prolonged instability in the region. Diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear program now appear more uncertain as military actions replace negotiations.
With multiple countries affected and airspace closures in place, global leaders are calling for restraint to prevent the conflict from expanding further. The situation remains tense, and the international community is closely monitoring developments as fears of a broader confrontation continue to grow.
