A man allegedly threw a shoe at Chief Justice of India B R Gavai on Monday morning inside the Supreme Court. The Delhi Police reached the Supreme Court.
The Delhi Police stated that the advocate, named Mr Kishore, took out his shoes and threw them at CJI Gavai at around 11:35 am.
“He was picked up by the security personnel. He was handed over to the security unit of the Supreme Court. He is a resident of the Mayur Vihar area and a registered member of the Supreme Court Bar Association,” a senior police officer said.
CJI Gavai later said, “just ignore it. I am not distracted. I did not insult any religion, I respect all the religions.”
“He not only refused to accept the prayer, but made fun of the Lord Vishnu,” Mr Kishore said.
Mr Kishore also said he had “not been able to sleep since 16 September when Justice Gavai made the remarks at Lord Vishnu.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the shoe attack “utterly condemnable.”
“There is no place for such reprehensible acts in our society,” the PM said.
