Weather Concerns Delay IPL 2025 Playoff Venue Finalisation

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to confirm the venues for the IPL 2025 playoffs, including Qualifier 1, the Eliminator, and the Final.

Indian media reports suggest that Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium is being strongly considered for hosting Qualifier 2 and the Final, scheduled for 1 and 3 June, respectively. The delay in venue confirmation is largely due to weather-related concerns, particularly the onset of the monsoon.

Sources indicate that BCCI is closely tracking monsoon patterns to avoid any disruptions during the tournament’s critical stages. Forecasts currently favour Ahmedabad, with low chances of rainfall in early June, making it a strong candidate for the concluding matches.

Mumbai is being considered for hosting Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator. However, persistent rain and cloud cover have raised doubts over its suitability. If conditions in northern cities like Delhi, Jaipur, or Lucknow prove more stable, those venues may be selected instead.

Despite the uncertainty, officials are unlikely to introduce any new cities for the playoffs. Final choices are expected to be made from the six cities already hosting the last 17 league-stage games, following the mid-season reshuffle.

Logistical concerns, including broadcast setup and transport of equipment, are also influencing the decision. This has ruled out cities such as Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Mohali/Dharamsala. Notably, teams like CSK and SRH were allocated only one home match each, making extensive arrangements unfeasible.
