Amid rising temperatures and a prolonged heatwave, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has revised school hours across the province to protect students from extreme weather conditions. The change affects both public and private educational institutions.

As per the new schedule, all schools in KP will start at 7:15 am. Primary schools will dismiss students by 11:50 am, while middle and high schools will close at 12:15 pm. In some districts, minor adjustments may apply, with end times ranging between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm, depending on local conditions and school levels.

Officials explained that the revised timings are a preventive measure aimed at minimizing students’ exposure to peak heat hours. Health and weather authorities had raised alarms over the ongoing heatwave, prompting urgent action.

Meanwhile, in Punjab, the provincial government under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced early summer vacations for all schools. A formal notification confirmed that public and private schools will remain closed from May 28 to August 14 due to the severe weather.

The decision followed consultations with the education department and other stakeholders. Until the break begins, schools will operate from 7:30 am to 11:30 am.

A senior Punjab education official stated that the early closure was in direct response to warnings issued by health and meteorological agencies, stressing the need to prioritise students’ health and safety during extreme climate events.
